Mill Creek’s Memorial Day events on May 31, 2021 will help the community honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. The City’s events will include a pre-recorded commemorative ceremony and a reverse drive-by parade, including military memorabilia and Memorial boards.
The commemorative ceremony will air on the City’s website and Facebook page at 9 a.m. on May 31. The pre-recorded ceremony originates at the Mill Creek Veterans Monument, 15429 Bothell-Everett Hwy. The ceremony is pre-recorded to comply with outdoor gathering requirements for COVID-19.
Following the online ceremony, a reverse parade will take place on Main Street between 155th Street SE (the Cold Stone Creamery) and 153rd Street SE (the corner of the former University Bookstore). The display of military memorabilia will be available for public viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 31.
The public is invited to drive by and view the display of military memorabilia while remaining in their vehicles. The military memorabilia will be on site to pay tribute to the service of all U.S. military veterans. Display items include: a battlefield cross (boots, rifle, helmet, and dog tags) and a wreath. Additionally, military uniforms from Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine are provided by staff and community members for on-site viewing during the event.
The City is expanding the reverse parade to incorporate Memorial boards to remember and recognize local military members from the community. The boards will be displayed inside the windows of local businesses during the Memorial Day weekend for the community to read the stories about those who served. The boards illustrate the rich history of our country’s service men and women, and is an opportunity for loved ones to share the pride and patriotism of the service member. Locations for the Memorial boards include:
- Banner Bank
- Central Market
- Columbia Funding Mortgage
- First Financial Northwest Bank
- FROST
- Paddywack
- Peoples Bank
- Starbucks in Mill Creek Town Center
