An image from Memorial DayMill Creek’s Memorial Day events on May 28 will help the community honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Events include:
  • Commemorative Ceremony at 9 a.m. at Mill Creek’s Veterans Monument, 15429 Bothell Everett Hwy.
  • Parade at 11 a.m. through Mill Creek Town Center between LA Fitness (15024 Main St.) and City Hall North (15720 Main St.)

World War II veteran Brigadier General William G. Hathaway will lead the parade as Grand Marshal. Key parade entrants include an FV433 British Abbot Tank, a 1942 Ford Jeep with 82nd Airborne markings, a 1952 Dodge Radio Command Truck, a 1945 Studebaker US6, a Korean Conflict Jeep, and a flyover by a B-25D Mitchell Bomber from Historic Flight, among others.

Community groups in the parade include local Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts troops, the Glacier Peak High School marching band, Reflections School of Dance, Jet City Roller Derby, Pink Zebra Cheer, Bruins Cheer, and the Cathcart Unicycle Club, among others.

Military groups participating in the parade include the American Legion, Civil Air Patrol, military recruiters, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Veterans post 2018.

“While we are honoring of those who lost their lives in service to our country, we also want to provide some historical elements and foster a sense of community with this parade,” said Joni Kirk, director of Communications and Marketing for the City.

Display tents will be placed along Main Street and will feature historical memorabilia from World War I, II, the Korean War and Vietnam War from the NW Veterans Museum, as well as static displays of antique military vehicles.

Event programs will have discount coupons for local businesses.

Due to the large crowds expected for this annual event, plan ahead for parking and traffic impacts.
  • Main Street between 148th Street SE and City Hall North will close for parking between 10 a.m. and noon.

  • The northbound turn lanes on Bothell-Everett Highway will be blocked off at 151st Street SE, 153rd Street SE and 156th Street SE at about 10:30 a.m.; southbound traffic can still make right-hand turns onto those streets.
  • 153rd Street SE will be blocked to through-traffic at about 10:45 a.m. and will reopen after the parade goes by.
  • From Mill Creek Blvd, traffic can turn north on Main Street, but will be diverted to an access road south of Run 26.
  • Finally, the north LA Fitness parking lot will close at 6 a.m. for parade staging; patrons can park in the south lot, but are advised that once the parade starts, access in and out will be temporarily stopped.

The City of Mill Creek's Memorial Day activities are sponsored by Community Transit, Nancy's Noah's Ark, Central Market, Waste Management, Fred Meyer, Mill Creek Business Association, Windermere Real Estate, Starbucks, FROST and Primrose School of Mill Creek. The community is encouraged to support the organizations that support the Mill Creek community.
