What is the tax rate for the City of Mill Creek?
- The tax rate for 2008 is $1.78 per thousand dollars of
assessed value. This amount goes to the City; however, your overall tax
bill will also include taxes for Snohomish County, state schools and the
Everett School District.
How are my taxes determined?
- The City Council sets the property tax levy annually.
For 2008, the City Council did not increase the property tax levy.
Where does the tax revenue go?
- Property tax revenue currently comprises 56% of the City's annual
operating revenue. It is used to provide city services including public
safety, recreation, planning, community development, public works, streets,
library and general government.
Are the City's books audited?
- Yes. Every year the Washington State Auditor's Office performs an on-site
audit of the
City's
financial records and procedures. The audit for fiscal year 2006 is complete and

The 2007 financial audit has not yet been performed.
How can I get involved in the budget process?
- Public hearings are held in November as the City
Council prepares to set the tax rate for the upcoming year. Budget
review sessions are open to the public during that time. The City also
sends out citizen surveys to collect information from you about levels
of service, fees, etc.
