Spring/Summer 2018 Construction in Mill Creek

An image of Mill Creek's various construction projectsThe investment of millions of dollars in Snohomish County infrastructure by the state and federal governments underscores the significant growth occurring in Snohomish County. The county is the second-fastest growing county in the nation.

That influx of funding into the county comes with a price. Construction projects generally must be completed within a specific time frame, which means that some projects may overlap. Such is the case in the Mill Creek area this spring and summer.

Mill Creek community members will need to plan ahead for local travel for the next several months due to numerous roadway projects.

Please note that project timelines are weather-dependent and schedules may shift as needed.

35th Avenue SE
The City of Mill Creek begins construction on its most significant capital project to date – the reconstruction of 35th Avenue SE where flooding over the roadway has caused lane closures in recent years. This project includes a full closure of 35th Avenue SE between 141st and 144th Streets SE in Mill Creek through October. The detour route is via 132nd Street SE and the Bothell-Everett Highway (SR 527). The public is encouraged to sign up for project notifications at www.cityofmillcreek.com/35threconstruction.

The City reminds community members to not the use side roads off 35th Avenue SE for unofficial detour routes, as these are residential neighborhoods not built for arterial traffic. The side roads should only be used by local access vehicles, meaning you live in one of the neighborhoods adjacent to 35th Avenue SE, including Highland Trails, North Pointe, Silver Crest, and Silver Glen.

The County also will start construction on 35th Avenue SE between 152nd Street SE and 180th Street SE in April; this project will continue through summer/fall 2019. While there will be single-lane closures for the duration of the project, four weekend road closures are anticipated in concentrated areas. https://tinyurl.com/County35th

Seattle Hill Road
Snohomish County will complete the Seattle Hill Road project between 35th Avenue SE and 132nd Street SE this summer. The work is slated to wrap up in August. https://tinyurl.com/County-SHR

132nd Street SE

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will undertake a night-time grind and overlay project on SR 96 between I-5 and Hwy 9 via Seattle Hill Road and Lowell Larimar Road. In Mill Creek, 132nd Street SE will be impacted by lane closures. The project is slated to wrap up in September.

Swift Green Line
Community Transit work on the Swift Green Line is underway and will continue through 2019. This includes installation of bus stops and extending turn lanes in Mill Creek along 132nd Street SE and SR 527. Work occurs during daytime and nighttime hours. Single lane closures are expected in concentrated areas, and periodic two-lane closures will occur when concrete pads are installed in the roadway. www.communitytransit.org/swiftgreen

164th Street SE and Mill Creek Blvd.
Puget Sound Energy gas line work is occurring on 164th Street SE and Mill Creek Blvd. Work will occur at night and will impact one or two lanes at a time. The work is slated for completion in July.

Varied Cable Projects
Snohomish County Public Utility District will have localized cable replacement work in Mill Creek in the fourth quarter of the year. However, impacts will be limited.

U.S. Hwy 2 Detour Traffic
A project outside of Mill Creek will impact the Mill Creek community. WSDOT will undertake a significant grind and overlay project on westbound Hwy 2 that includes nine weekend closures in summer 2018. The anticipated detour route is via Hwy 9 and 132nd Street SE.
