The City of Mill Creek will hold both a commemoration ceremony and a parade for Memorial Day weekend to honor those who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

The commemoration ceremony is set for Friday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at Mill Creek’s Veterans Monument, located at Library Park, 15429 Bothell-Everett Hwy in Mill Creek. The ceremony includes remarks from the mayor, a prayer from the Mill Creek police chaplain, and singing of the National Anthem by the Mill Creek Chorale during the raising of the flag.

“Community members will have an opportunity to pay their respects by laying carnations at the monument to honor those who have given their life in the service of our country,” said Joni Kirk, director of communications and marketing.

On Monday, May 29, the city will hold a Memorial Day parade at 10:30 a.m. It will wind down Main Street, starting at from LA Fitness in the Mill Creek Town Center and ending at City Hall. The parade will highlight the veterans in the Mill Creek community and honor members of local families who died in service.

“For many people, this holiday means a three-day weekend, barbecues, and family and friend outings,” said Kirk. “While we all enjoy these things, it is important that we not forget the purpose behind this holiday, which was established to remember and honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country.”

The City of Mill Creek is requesting names of community members that have died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces to put on a banner as a way to honor the families and individuals. Submit names of family members who died in service or others who should be honored to Tim Yates at timy@cityofmillcreek.com or by phone at 425-921-5735 by May 1.
